Happy Christmas!

by James on Tuesday 15th December 2009

Hi everyone. Just wanted to wish you all a happy Christmas from over here in India! It looks like we’re not going to be moved into our house in time to be able to get our cards posted to you, but maybe we can send New Year cards instead. It’s not very Christmassy over here at all, especially with it being so warm and sunny. But a couple of the shops are now starting to sell a few decorations and we might even be able to order a turkey for Christmas dinner (although in reality we’ll probably not bother cooking and go to one of the big hotels instead).

Anyone, hope you all have a great Christmas and see you in the new year.

My new motorbike?

by James on Friday 11th December 2009

So it looks like I’m going to be allowed to get me a motorbike to get about on, and I’m quite fancying the Royal Enfield’s that are still made here in India. They’ve just bought out a new ‘Bullet Classic’ version based upon the old 1950′s Royal Enfield from back home, but with a new fuel injected engine. Looks pretty good to me, but just trying to decide which colour I like the most!

What do you think? (Katie doesn’t like either).

House update…

by James on Thursday 10th December 2009

We’ve just had an update with regards to our new house. Apparently all of the legal paperwork has now been approved by Kate’s company, signed by the landlord in the States and is currently being couriered back to Hyderabad. So with any luck, we should be able to finally move in towards the middle of next week. Definitely looking forward to moving out of this hotel now, so fingers crossed that there are no more delays. We were beginning to think that we’d still be in the hotel for Christmas!

We’re also hoping that all of the shops are open again next week so that we can go and buy all the bits and pieces we need for the house. Most of them have been shut this week as there’s been various protests and demonstrations going on in some areas of the city (thank fully no where near us!) and one of the political parties called for a citywide shut-down. They’ve been lobbying for the state that Hyderabad is in to be split into separate regions (a problem left over from when British rule ended and India was divided up), but things seemed to have been resolved overnight. There are apparently some ‘victory marches’ going on today, but hopefully things will then quieten down again and we can start shopping over the weekend!

UPDATE: It now looks like next weekend is more likely for our move (Sat. 19th Dec), so we might only just be in for Christmas!
